Here at StartUP LunchBox we’re really interested in ways you can get your startup marketing exposure without spending a lot (or any) money. We’ve already written about Marketplaces for Selling Your Goods and Services like Etsy or Merchant Circle and we’ve written about Free Places to Publicize Your Launch.
Today we are going to look at using daily deal and flash sale websites, such as Groupon, Fab.com or Groupe Guilt, for free marketing. Since Groupon’s IPO there have been lots of rumblings about how daily deal sites are bad for your business. The critics claim, they don’t create repeat customers and can, in some cases, be cost prohibitive if you can’t handle the volume of orders your receive. However, a study by research analysts Forrester showed that half of US Consumers had never used a daily deal or flash site and of those who had 36% and 47%, respectively, had never made a purchase. So it could actually be said that you aren’t canalizing your customer base and if you are using the deal to create brand awareness the most important point is getting people to know you exist.
With any business decision you need to run the numbers and carefully consider how it will impact your business specifically. But that said the opportunity to get your brand in front of thousands of potential customers for free is pretty attractive in itself. As the marketing “Rule of 7″ says customers need to see or hear your marketing message at least 7 times before they will buy from you. And this is one pretty low cost way to start. You can even host deals on several sites or run multiple deals.
Thanks to the success of Groupon there are now tons of daily deal and flash sale websites. Here are some places to look for ones that will work for you.
